MANHOLE & COMBINED SEWER
OVERFLOW(CSO) SURVEYING

Our specialised manhole survey team have a combined total of over 60 years within the discipline.

All surveys are carried out in accordance with the WRC Model Contract Document for Manhole Location surveys and production of record maps (STC25) and can be presented in many different formats ranging from  hand written manhole card, digital format manhole cards and if required on larger structures AutoCAD drawings. Information recorded includes details of the manhole structure, diameter/size of pipe inlets and outlets, invert depths of pipes, condition status of elements of each manhole. The manhole survey data will either contain a dimensioned location sketch based on Ordnance Survey background mapping with a cover level or latterly a photo of the location with Ordnance Survey coordinates and cover level generated from GPS survey results.

Along with standard manholes we also undertake Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) surveys. Primarily for the regional water companies our data has been used in many differing studies such as bathing water studies, river pollution incidents and non-permitted discharging into sewer systems. Many CSO’s details are unrecorded and with water companies under pressure to reduce discharges into watercourses we have seen a growing demand for these assets to be surveyed as part of a move to manage a more environmentally friendly business profile.

CSO’s can be as basic as a high level overflow pipe within a manhole or a purpose built CSO structure with adjustable spill level weirs and concrete diversion channels.

CASE STUDY

PES were awarded works that involved the survey and production of AutoCAD drawings
of CSO’s & CEO’s within a number of Southern Water sites across Sussex.
